What to Expect From a Hayes Estimate

Straight answers to what homeowners ask before they pick up the phone.

Is the estimate really free?

Yes, and there is no obligation attached to it. We walk the project, talk through scope and prep, and give you a written number. You are free to take it, sit on it, or compare it against others.

How long does the visit take?

Usually twenty to forty minutes for a typical home, longer for a whole-house exterior or a large commercial property. We would rather spend the extra ten minutes looking properly than guess and revise later.

Will you give me a price over the phone?

We can give a rough range on straightforward work, but not a real number. Painting prices depend on surface condition, prep required, height and access, and how much repair is hiding under the current finish. Anyone quoting a firm price sight unseen is either padding it heavily or planning to revise it.

What should I have ready?

Not much. It helps to know roughly which rooms or surfaces you want included, whether you have colours in mind, and any problems you have already noticed such as peeling, soft wood, or water stains. If your HOA requires colour approval, mention it up front.

Do I need to be there for the whole thing?

For interiors, yes, it is worth walking the rooms together. For exteriors, we can assess most of it on our own, though a few minutes at the start to hear what is bothering you makes the estimate far more useful.

How soon can you start after I accept?

It depends on the season and the type of work. Spring and fall exteriors book furthest ahead. Interior work and specialty projects are usually more flexible. We will give you an honest date rather than an optimistic one.
